![]() ![]() On Thanksgiving, I went to a pharmacy 1/2 mile from home. I can have a better conversation with the wall. Or maybe just get rid of the electric motor and all the gizmos and put power steering pumps in cars. gm picks who to send recall papers to, why if the problem is happening to a lot of owners, why not replace them all. ![]() I always had a gm in driveway but that might change. we never got a recall on cobalt and have to pay straight out of pocket, but dealership says better to buy another car, NOT. if i disconnect battery over nite all power drains from computer and when i hook it back up problem gone for a day or so. Didn't work but it might work for some people. I have tried the easy fix which is on you tube. power steering fails, transmission shifts with a bang, engine light comes on, and transmission TMC light comes on. had car for a year and now it is doing the same thing. Then it was suggested to just replace the car and all your problems will be solved. replaced the battery, and it went away for 7 months. We had a 2006 purcurit which had same problem. As the module is now permanently grounded to the body of the car. Your problem with the steering and loss of transmission shifting should now be permanently solved. Loosen one of the nuts, place the wire under the nut and re-tighten. Take the other end of the number 12 copper wire and attach it to one of the 3 bolts that support the front strut on the right side. Put the bolt in the hole and attach about 4 feet of number 12 solid copper wire to the bolt and tighten. Get a 1/4 x 20 x 3/4 inch bolt with a locking nut or washer. There are two bolt holes diagonally opposite each other on the module which is in a metal case. To fix this problem PERMANENTLY, remove the transmission module from the plastic box. The computer does not recognize the signal from the transmission module. The dashboard lights come on all at once. As does the cars transmission ability to properly shift out of gear. When the ground connection to the transmission module is lost, the power steering fails. The ONLY means of grounding the module was a thin wire that is attached to the multi pin plug that jacks into the module. It was apparent that the transmission control module, located in the engine compartment and in front of the car's computer, was installed in a plastic "box" or holder and NOT mounted on the Fire wall or any metal body part of the car. The FIX was so simple, It's astounding that GM didn't realize what was happening. Some young kid put up the solution on a Face Book post. People owning a Cobalt also had experienced the dashboard "trouble" lights coming on when this happened. Power Steering Loss And Transmission Problem - What I found out, after doing much research, was that the power steering loss was also linked to the transmission not shifting.I replaced the started with a used one(that was tested and works), and now the key comes out of ignition fine, but the effing car wont start. By the time I got it back from the dealership, had my battery charged, and figured out about the shifter override switch, the car wouldn't start. I got the key out with the little switch under the steering column. When I would try to take the key out, it was stuck too. It would still start, but I could not get it out of park. The reason I took it to the dealership is because the car was stuck in park. The dealership said I have a bad battery(it is a 1 year old battery that AutoZone says is good.), they said my underhood fuse block is shorted internally, they say the car will start(but does not disengage), and they say the ECM controls crank circuit(and every time voltage is connect the engine turns over, but does not start). I get no strange lights or warnings on the dash. I replaced my ignition switch(even though it was just replaced in 2014), and still nothing turns over. ![]() So I have replaced the starter, but it does not even try to turn over. After about 3 months they finally "looked" at the car, and came up with a bunch of stuff that was wrong with it, but I also don't know if they just did that to get me to go away because they "looked" at it really fast. I took it to a local dealership, and got into a big fight with them about somethings. The power to the car turns on, but the car itself will not turn on. ![]()
